Shopping Spree!

Shopping spree! Last Wednesday, Steve Chan and I went to Esprit at the Pavilion pampering ourselves with some new clothes. Here is our bill:

The total amount is RM 1,149.20.
Of course we came with preparation. Steve took out a 40% discount voucher. ;)
Deduct with the discount amount of RM459.68,
we need to pay only RM 689.52.

Is 40% a good discount? I don’t know whether I had a great deal or not. However, I hardly see Esprit slashes its price. =P Back to home we realized that the cashier lost her count. We bought 9 clothes but she just took as 8 clothes. Buy 8 free 1. We are sorry. Here is our booty:

答应不爱你

明明爱很清晰  却又接受分离
我只剩失恋的权利
难过还来不及  爱早已融入呼吸
不存在的 存在心底

虽然很努力练习着忘记
我的心却还没答应可以放弃了你
真的对不起  答应了你不再爱你
我却还没答应我自己

说好要忘记  偏偏又想起
原来我的心还没有答应放弃了你
真的对不起  虽然曾经答应了你
我却还没答应我自己
却又如何真的不爱你

Sushi King - RM 2 is back!

Yesterday, it was a hectic day. We had one presentation for Industry Energy Management subject and test 2 for Economic for Engineers. Our group received "Good presentation, it was interesting & straight to the point" from our lovely Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Hariffin. Thank you and good job to my partner Jason Lee. So far, we are the best group in the presentation. (hehe)

Since we had done our presentation well, Jason Lee proposed to celebrate at Sushi King Mid Valley because there is a RM2 promotion for all the rice-based sushi. However, he somehow managed to get his pilot license yesterday when we reached Mid Valley car park. (Hehe, just kidding, I understand that girl friend is always the first priority) ;) The normal price for Unagi sushi is Rm6 but now it is just RM2. I had 8 plates of that. Girls and guys, tomorrow is the last day for the Sushi King promotion. Hurry!

Digi Campus - Always the smarter choice

The telco price war breaks out when Maxis slashed the call rate for its prepaid plan by launching ‘Hotlink Youth Club’ for youth age below 25. As expected, Digi reaction was quick. It came out with ‘Digi Campus’ to retaliate with an equally compelling package to lure new youth subscribers. Let’s have a look on the price war!

The Telco H in red color is Hotlink Youth Club while the yellow color stands for Digi Campus.

Compare with the existing prepaid plan, the Hotlink Youth Club and Digi Campus are indeed attractive plans for students and youth. The average call rate for prepaid plan is RM0.33/min while the average Youth Plan call rate is RM0.15/min. A significant price slashing of more than 50%!

Since the call rate is low and I am eligible to the terms and conditions (student and age below 25), what am I waiting for? I changed my call plan immediately! However, the decision wasn’t easy to make when both of the options look attractive and competitive. Going through the call plans and pressing calculator again and again, finally, I had chosen Digi Campus. The decision made was not because of the Digi motto: " Always the smarter choice "  >.<" but it was supported by some reasons.

Reason 1: Digi Campus is meant for couple and for those who can talk for hours!
Digi offers free calls within the same network after RM2 of total daily usage. How much it can save?

Digi: For instance, by setting my girl friend into one of the 11 Friend and Family, the call rate is RM0.08/min. If I call her for 30 minutes, it costs me RM2.40/day. Due to the FREE CALLS after RM2, I just have to pay RM2/day.

Hotlink: If I am using hotlink, the call rate is RM0.12/min. Hotlink will charge me RM3.60 for a 30 minutes call.

I have to pay 80% more! If my Digi bill is RM30, I have to pay Hotlink RM54 for the same call usage. The FREE CALLS AFTER RM2 is simply irresistible!
(*It is important noting here that, I call my girl friend not because the call rate is cheap but it is because I miss her. Even though the call rate is high, I do call her daily.*)

Reason 2: Digi Birthday Bonus
Digi gives 50% addition talk time bonus on your birthday upon reload up to RM500. What most people will do is they will reload a large amount on their birthday. A RM200 reload will receive addition RM100 talk time. $.$

All in all, Digi-- Always the smarter choice ;)

A4 papers

Yesterday I went to buy A4 papers at Tesco Hypermarket in Seremban. I couldn’t decide which brand to buy when I reached the A4 papers section because there were many brands available. Double A looked attractive in quality, Tesco Choice looked cheap and Bright (new brand I think) looked competitive in price! Which one should I buy??

The paper manufacturers are smart businessmen. They lower the price at the same time they lower the number of sheets too! You may think that you have bought something cheap, however, the truth is although the A4 papers are cheap but you have fewer sheets of papers! (绝代商骄-->合理化烟雾 business theory) For example, Double A offers RM11.50 with 500 sheets while Tesco Choice offers RM8.35 with 450 sheets of papers.

So how to decide which one should I buy? As an engineer, to compare which one is the cheapest, let calculate all the brands in Ringgit/sheets (so that sheets is not a factor).

For 80GSM A4 paper
(note: GSM=gram per square meter, it means the thickness & quality, high GSM meaning it has high thickness & quality):

*Tesco value A4 Paper
440 sheets---RM 7.90--- RM/sheet 0.0180 (cheapest)

*Tesco choice A4 Paper (Tesco has two different types of A4 paper)
450 sheets---RM 8.35--- RM/sheet  0.0186

*Bright A4 Photocopy Paper
440 sheets---RM 8.90--- RM/sheet  0.0202

*PaperOne All Purpose Paper A4
500 sheets---RM 11.49---RM/sheet  0.0230

*Double A Premium Quality Paper
500 sheets---RM 11.50---RM/sheet  0.0230 (most expensive)

For 70GSM A4 paper

*Bright A4 Photocopy Paper
440 sheets---RM 6.50 ---RM/sheet 0.0148 (cheapest)

*Tesco value A4 Paper
440 sheets---RM 6.90 ---RM/sheet 0.0157

*PaperOne All Purpose Paper A4
500 sheets---RM 9.90 ---RM/sheet 0.0198 (most expensive)

In conclusion, Tesco Value A4 is the cheapest which is RM0.018/sheet while Double A is the most expensive which is RM0.023/sheet for 80GSM A4 papers. You have to pay 28% more per sheet for 80GSM Double A papers! For 70GSM A4 papers, Bright appears to be the cheapest among the others which is RM0.0148/sheet while the highest price is RM0.0198/sheet which means you have to pay 34% more per sheet for 70GSM category!

(note: we have to look into quality of the papers as well. For normal usage, the quality of the A4 papers are almost the same)

September Babies

I have abandoned my blog for quite a long time because I have to do assignmentssS and study for testssS. I promise I will write more frequently. When September came, I realized I have plenty of Virgo friends. Let me highlight my close friends’ birthday celebration.

Curry Egg: Happy birthday to you. May all your wishes come true. You had a memorable EggieQue moment. =) http://curryegg.blogspot.com/

Pei Saan: Happy birthday to you 090909! (Where are the photos? I have been waiting since 090909. All accidentally deleted??)

Jason Lee: Housemate, happy birthday to you! And congratulation for (n+1) <3 [no more lonelykidd!] hehe.

Makiyo: Happy birthday to you! I am sorry for not being able to turn up on that day (20092009) but I have prepared a present for you. I will upload the photo later since I haven’t given to you.

Happy Raya Aidilfitri to all my Malay friends. Because of you, I have one week holiday and horrible traffic jams! The traffic was terrible on Friday night when I went to fetch my sister in Sunway. I was trapped in the heavily congested traffic for more than 1.5 hours before I can reach Sunway College from Kajang. I saw minor accidents on the road the way back to home. Guys and girls, drive safely when back to class. Speed can kill!

Raining cat and dog + High traffic load = Heavily Congested Traffic

I went to visit my grandma in Kuala Pilah because moon cake festival is around the corner. If I am not mistaken, it is on 3rd of October. There is a very famous moon cake bakery shop in Kuala Pilah 马口南发饼家. The red bean paste moon cake is very delicious! It can compete with 大同月饼. Thumbs up!

DiGi-Deep Green Challenge

Recently, DiGi organizes a go green competition and came to UNITEN. The price for the 1st place is RM70,000! Our renewable energy class is selected to take part (because it is the most relevant course regarding to the competition) to save our environment by trying to reduce the energy usage of the air conditioning system in the Radio Based Station (RBS). Reduce in energy usage will therefore reduce the CO2 emission to the environment (Sustainability). Two 2.5hp air conditioners are running 24/7 alternatively. The average energy bill for the air conditioning system is RM400/month. Our challenge is to design a technical model that minimizes the energy consumption and at the same time the Return on Investment (ROI) has to be more than 50% and payback less than 2 years.

A team of 8 consists of Jason Lee, Kok Wei, Chun Hong, Yik Hong, Kiang Wei, Zhi Xing, Wai Yan and me. Jason Lee is indeed a report designer. The first time he proposed the report format and the team role (I am surprise!!), I can let him do the rest without any worry.

Chun Hong is good in drawing the schematic diagrams of the ideas. (I want to show but the idea is confidential until 1st of September. Maybe next time?) Kok wei, without you, we won’t go till so far. Last but not least, thank you Kiang Wei and Zhi Xing for the information searching and Challenge 2.

The difficulty of this competition is the low energy bill of the air conditioning. It is very hard to save $$ from the RM400 because we have to take care of the payback (engineering devices are costly). Nothing much can be done! Initially, we proposed three options which are the close loop water cooling system, heat recovery adsorption chiller, and solar thermal adsorption chiller. We are lucky to be selected for our proposal. Millions thank you to our advisor Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Erie Sandhita for voicing out our ideas and support us in the meeting of proposal selection.

Being selected --> have more sleepless night. Our team has to stay up until 4am for three days to refine the proposal in order to compete with the other universities. Now, we are doing inverter technology and our proposal is 97% done! Thank you brothers for all the effort that you all put in. Good luck and all the best to our team! (RM70000 divided by 8 = RM8750 per person $.$) hehe.

Rest in peace my dear friend..

Gary Leon Robert (1987-2009)

Rest in peace my dear friend Gary. God will be with you. You are a top student and all rounded person. You will always be remembered....

Genting Sanyen Power Family Day

Last week, I got my Final Year Project title which is “Effect of Alumina Addition on the Mechanical Properties of TiO2 Ceramic” under supervision of Prof. Madya Ir. Dr. Ramesh Singh. (Prof. Madya Ir. Dr.) --> A very intelligent and knowledgeable professor. It is a research based project that requires me to do a lot of literature reviews and experiments. Unlike design projects, I don’t have to spend money on building up prototypes which sometimes cost more than thousands. I still remember the conversation with him on the first day I met him.

Prof. Madya Ir. Dr. : Why you want to take my project?
JH : Because I can progress after I graduate.
Prof. Madya Ir. Dr. : What is your CGPA?
JH : My CGPA is _._ _ (CGPA is more important than my name)

He explained to me later that why he wanted to look to my CGPA first is because he wanted to see whether we can have what sought of talking……… (Censored out due to sensitive contents). In short, CGPA is very important. I had a happy conversation with him and will try my BEST to score!

Last Friday, I bought a new modified refillable cartridge for my Epson printer CX3900 at Lowyat Plaza. This modified refillable cartridge requires less maintenance and is problem free compare to the Continuous Ink Supply System (CISS) that I previously installed. If you are having dilemma in selecting which modified system is the best or genuine cartridge, I would recommend modified refillable cartridge rather than CISS or genuine cartridge. Below are the proving: (Engineers are well trained in proving)

CISS -->
Cost: RM 200
Advantage: Do not have to top up the ink.
Disadvantage: If there are bubbles inside the system, high maintenance skills are required! Believe me, it’s not an easy task.

Modified refillable cartridge -->
Cost: RM 70
Advantages: Problem free from the bubbles and complicated transmission system.
Disadvantage: Have to refill the ink when the ink level runs low. (May be refill once a month, depends on the usage)

Genuine cartridge -->
Cost: RM (120 x N times)
Advantage: Compatible problem free.
Disadvantage: Costly and c
artridge cannot be refilled. Unlike the CISS and Modified refillable cartridge that require one time initial cost.

Last Saturday, it was our annually Genting Sanyen Power family day at Genting Awana Resort! This is the time to know all the junior scholars. (Time flies! I have become senior dy). Again, let the pictures tell the story on that day. May be this is my last Genting family day? (I am sorry, only certain people will know why. Hehe.)

Cameron Trip

Last Thursday, we went to night market in Kajang with our new neighbour who is my secondary school classmate. She is a smart girl and always got number 1 in my class. (She is the only one I couldn’t beat!!) Who is she? She is Tan Choi Wan.

On Saturday, we went to Ipoh to try some of the famous food --> the Lou Wong Ipoh bean sprout chicken and the ‘tau fu hua’. Luckily Jason Lee didn’t bring us to the Ipoh Old Town Coffee to have our lunch. If he does so, we will definitely kill him! (FYI, Old Town Coffee cafes are everywhere in KL!) The ‘Lai Kei tau fu hua’ that Jason Lee recommended is so FINE and DELICIOUS!!! The ginger sugar is just nice and best fit to the ‘tau fu hua’. I like to eat ‘tau fu hua’ and always look for great one. This ‘Lai Kei tau fu hua’ is the BEST!

After staying an hour in Ipoh, we started our long journey to the Cameron Highlands for the Harmonica concert. From our previous experiences, we had prepared plastic bags for Jason Lee. Luckily he was fine. Thank you Pei Saan for inviting us and the tickets (RM180 each). Due to too many things to wrap up for the Cameron trip and I believe that pictures paint a thousand words so let the pictures summarize for me. Last but not least, I have a wonderful Cameron Trip!
